How do you work with a .VOB file?

I have a home DVD from a school show that I want to upload to Windows Movie Maker. It consists of several performed songs that I want to break up into individual videos per song. I can't get the .VOB file to import to Windows Movie Maker and I can't find any way to save it differently. Can someone help me out?
